What Fluenics does with your data
In short. Fluenics has no accounts and no server of ours that stores your learning. Everything you practise is kept in the app's storage on your phone. Two things leave the phone, each for one job: a recording of your voice goes to a speech service to be scored, and the text of a drill request goes to a language model to be written. The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.
What stays on your phone
- Your drills: every sentence, translation and tag, whether generated for you or written by hand.
- Your fluency map: which phrases, words and verb forms you have heard, said, recalled and kept, and when.
- Your history: drill completions, Review results, pronunciation scores, streaks.
- Settings: languages, voices, playback preferences.
- Voices: the neural text-to-speech voices run on the device. Voice packs are downloaded once as files; the text they speak never leaves the phone.
This data is stored in the app's private storage (a local database and files). It is not synced anywhere by Fluenics. Uninstalling the app deletes it, unless you exported a backup first.
What leaves your phone, and when
| When you | What is sent | To whom | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Say a phrase to be scored (Guided drills, Review, “Say it” on the map) | The audio recording of that attempt, the text you were meant to say, and the language | Microsoft Azure Speech (pronunciation assessment) | To score your pronunciation word by word. The score comes back and is kept on the phone. The recording is held in the app's temporary cache and cleared by the app. |
| Commission a drill, or make new sentences from the map | Your request text, the learning and native languages, and context about what you are working on: the verbs, words and recent phrases the app chooses for the request | Google Gemini (generative language model) | To write the sentences and translations of the drill. Nothing from your map is sent except what the request needs. |
| Install an on-device voice | A plain file download request | The voice pack's host (open-source model releases on GitHub) | To fetch the voice once. No text or personal data is included. |
Depending on the build, these requests go directly from the phone to the provider, or through a small relay we operate whose only purpose is to hold the service keys; the relay does not store your recordings or requests. Microsoft and Google process what they receive under their own terms (Microsoft Privacy Statement, Google Privacy Policy). We do not send them your name, your contacts, or any identifier for you.
What Fluenics does not do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no email collected by the app.
- No analytics, crash reporting or advertising SDKs.
- No background collection: the app only makes a request when you start the action above.
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone for their own purposes.
Permissions
- Microphone: to record the phrase you say for scoring. The app records only while you hold or tap the microphone control.
- Files (via the system picker): to save a backup file where you choose and to open one you pick. The app does not browse your files.
Backups and deleting your data
Profile → Backup & Restore exports everything above into one JSON file that you keep. Restoring on another phone can merge with what is there or erase it first. To delete your data, erase it from the same screen or uninstall the app; there is no copy with us to delete. If you believe a speech or language provider holds data about you, their policies above describe how to ask them.
Children
Fluenics is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If what leaves the phone ever changes, this page changes first, with the date above.
